The Killers have been announced as the headliners for Bilbao BBK Live in Spain next July. With their fifth studio album on the way, does this mean we'll see them hit the festival circuit next summer, followed in the fall by a European tour?

Kaiser Chiefs - We Stay Together & Hole In My Soul

How about a little newish Kaiser Chiefs to start the week. We've heard a lot of talk comparing this to Roxy Music but we hear more than just a little Bowie in there...

U2 - With Or Without You

Can it really be 40 years since these Irish upstarts burst onto the music scene? Round here, we rather see Joshua Tree as one of the defining albums of our teen years. Guess we know what we'll be listening to today...

Dead Or Alive - Something in My House

Following the very sad news about Pete Burns, there can only be one choice for throwback Thursday this week.  As a teenager growing up in Las Vegas in the 80's, Dead or Alive were among the many bands that started my life-long love affair with British music and culture, one which celebrated individuals who were miles away from the US pop filling the radio waves...

My Chemical Romance - "Welcome to the Black Parade"

With the new album this week, we can't think of a better choice for #newmusictuesday.  We've got a lot of love for this band.  We say that a lot on this page don't we?  But what's the point of having your own blog if you don't get to use it for things you love :) ....

Modern Pleasure-Messina

We caught this band from Leeds at Hyde Park this weekend.  It took us a little while to find them because we could have sworn they introduced themselves as "Madame Pleasure" :)  But it was worth the dodgy search results as they are very much worth a listen...

Mumford and Sons There Will Be Time at BST Hyde Park 8th July 2016

After the Mumfords homecoming gig last night, there can only be one choice for today's post.  Here is the one and only Baaba Maal joining them on stage along with Beatenberg, The Very Best and Noah and The Whale's Tom Hobden.  "There is a time, a time to love, a time to sing, a time to shine..."  Words we could all do with right now we reckon...

The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go

Today's throwback Thursday post is both topical and personal.  As the UK goes to the polls to decide over Brexit, we've decided to put up a song that has sentimental value as the first album one of us ever purchased.  What can we say?  We've always had taste...

Cooking to Frank Turner on a glorious summer day - bliss.  Doesn't he just nail it with the lyrics in this song about those relationships that are never quite right - "We used to fit like mittens but never like gloves"...

Sia - Cheap Thrills (Lyric Video) ft. Sean Paul

I gotta be honest - here at GLGM2 we may be partial to guitar music and husky voices but we love just about any music that puts a smile on our face and makes us want to dance.  Plus, who doesn't like some cheap thrills... Happy Friday !!

Guillemots - Words

After almost 20 years of working in media, PR and now marketing, words are invaluable to me.  I chose my words with precision and often will spend a good five minutes trying out variables to ensure I have just the right word to convey what I'm attempting to say - in both my professional and personal lives.  Today, I have lost my voice for the second day running, unable to communicate with ease I feel so cut off from the world.  So this song as a #tbt choice is a no-brainer.

A gorgeous song from a band I miss so much.  And with the divine lyric - "I think life would be so much easier if I was half-drunk or mad."

Little Triggers - 'Giving Me Up'

Kings of Leon - Beautiful War, Milton Keynes Bowl, 22/06/2014

Milton Keynes was the third time I'd seen these guys play and they were tight as hell.  They played a video on the screens during this song set in a ghost town which took me straight back to the Nevada desert.  The sun had set, a light breeze was blowing and I was shortly afterwards to get an amazing picture of my daughter on someone's shoulders for the time.  Every time I hear this song, it takes me straight back to that night #happiness

Mumford and Sons - Only Love (Live)

I love this album.  I was a bit meh about Mumfords when they first came around - catchy but not really fascinating I thought.  But Wilder Mind turned out to be one of my favourite albums of last year and the whole album still continues to get a lot of play on my phone.  I'm looking forward to seeing them this summer.

After a little hiatus on the blog last week when I was sunning myself in Kos for my birthday, this seems an appropriate song to start with.  See, I got a happy birthday text from someone I haven't heard from in a year, who this song always makes me think of.  Someone who made a bit of a fool out of me last year, someone I really hope comes of age one day because he's too good a guy to behave the way he did.  Music - a great reminder that somewhere someone is going through the same thing you are...

Kaleo - "Way Down We Go" (LIVE in a volcano)

A perfect song to ease into the weekend. Plus, all songs should be sung inside a volcano at least once!!

Thursday, 28 April 2016

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama **Official Video**

Today's #tbt is one of my top five all time fave golden oldies.  Which Matthew McConaughey seems to get in most of his film soundtracks so I'm guessing he's rather fond of it too :)

Tuesday, 26 April 2016

Sam Hunt - Break Up In A Small Town

So over here at GLGM2, we've got a dirty little secret.  We're a little bit partial to some country - must be our American roots showing :). Enjoy y'all...

Monday, 25 April 2016

Chasing Grace - Run

Today's choice has a bit to do with the fact that I love this song.  And a bit to do with the fact that this time next week I'll be on a beach in Greece because I get to run away myself.  But only for a week...

Creep - Prince at Coachella 2008

Our second video tonight celebrates Prince the performer.  Not many people can cover Radiohead and win.  With this Coachella performance, Prince won.  And took this haunting song somewhere completely new...

Chris Cornell "Nothing Compares 2 U" Prince Cover Live @ SiriusXM // Lit...

Sunday is a good day for reflection.  Still trying to come to terms with the loss of Prince, we'll have two covers I think to celebrate his life.  Here's one celebrating the songwriter...

PRINCE - The Most Beautiful Girl In The World

There is no arguing about Prince’s musical genius - his music is a big part of the soundtrack of my life and, for my money, over the last 20 years only Slash could come a distant second to matching his ability on the guitar.  But for me his icon status stretched past music.  MTV launched about the same time I took my first tottering, high-heeled steps into the tricky world of sexual politics.  Prince celebrated women, empowering and mentoring them.  When he had women on the stage with them, it was because of their talent, not because they were cookie-cutter long-legged, red-lipped, miniskirted models pretending to play their instruments.  From Sheila E to 3rdeyegirl via Wendy and Lisa and Apollonia6, Prince treated his fellow women musicians the same as the men he worked with – a true feminist before anyone really thought about applying the word to a man. In a time when women were celebrated for their ability to do the splits on the hood of a car Prince taught us that talent is sexy, smart is sexy. So here is my favourite video from this true cultural icon - celebrating women for being wives, mothers, sisters, lovers, friends, professionals.   Thank you Prince for the beautiful experience.

Then Jerico - Big Area

#tbt Then Jerico.  Ahhh, the memories this brings back - driving across the Nevada desert with the roof off my little Fiero and this tape blasting out.  Love me a road trip...

Nirvana - The Man Who Sold The World (MTV Unplugged)

It's been 22 years since Kurt Cobain's death. Translation - god, I'm old.  Even though I was in my 20's when Nirvana came on the scene, they started my life-long love of gravelly voices and guitars.  And, of course, Dave Grohl...

Stereophonics - White Lies

There's no other way I can start this blog other than with my beloved Stereophonics.  After moving to London, I didn't go to a lot of gigs.  This was the first band I went to see after becoming a mum and it made me remember why I loved live music so much.  And as an added bonus, that gig, and many afterwards, cemented my friendship with one of my closest friends.  Music's like that...
